First Lily

My first lily has opened its buds and wow! It's really knocking my socks off.

Lilium 'Royal Sunset' and an orange Geum

Love those freckles!

A two-fer!

It's called 'Royal Sunset' and I bought the bulbs earlier this year from B&D Lilies. I have them planted in the new front garden, with one clump near the Digiplexis Illumination Flame. I think they make a fabulous combo. I'm just in love with the colors.

Do you grow lilies? I have several others planted in this bed too, in hopefully similar hot colors. Can't wait to see them all open.

  3. Stunning! You can't have too many hot colors and you can't have too many lilies. Well, some of you might. I never will. Do you have room to squeeze in a Kniphofia?

  5. A very pretty combination! I've only got 2 groups of lilies (and one of those was a gift with purchase). Every year at this time I wonder why, WHY didn't a plant more earlier this year?!

  6. We have some orientals that bloom later and one pot full of Asiatics, that are blooming now.

  7. I have some inherited orange lilies that I managed to hide from the deer by growing them behind some Yucca filamentosa. They were transplanted (rather ineptly) during the remodel at the front of the house and i was only able to salvage a few small bulbs, so no blooms this year.

Love the lily with the Digiplexis!

  8. They look so exotic aren't they? Especially with such a bright and warm colour like that.

  10. Delicious! I moved a bunch of my lilies this year so I don't think they're going to bloom well. :(

  11. A nice jolt of warm color on a grey day! It's a beauty. I grow mostly the fragrant oriental lilies that bloom later in the season but have had asiatic lilies before. Some of my long established clumps have botrytis so I'll drag out the copper spray!

  12. Brilliant combo! I generally stick to the Orientals because they smell sooo good, but the color on 'Royal Sunset' is amazing.

  13. What a gorgeous colour! I love lilies but growing them here has become a trial because of the dreaded lily beetle. You have to check them daily and squash the horrible things. Even then the leaves get tatty.
I keep seeing that wonderful Digiplexis on American blogs. I haven' t seen it here. It' s stunning. What a great match for your lily.

  14. That's my kind of lily! I still have to wait 1-2 weeks before our Asiatics open.
