Let's Do The Time Warp Again

Our recent cold, snowy weather has me thinking back to last summer, when I visited lots of gardens that were open for the Northwest Perennial Alliance's Open Garden Tours. I saw plenty of gardens that I never posted about.

Let's Do The Time Warp Again

Although I took loads of photos, I'm always reluctant to post about them, because I'm really pretty terrible at putting posts like this together. They never do justice to the hard work and artistry that I know gardeners do getting their spaces ready for viewers. But I thought perhaps in the interests of remembering the warmth of last summer I'd take a stab at it.

So, come with me and Tim Curry as we travel back in time to last summer and the garden of Lucinda and Jerome Capers.

Here's what they published about this garden in the NPA's Open Gardens booklet.

This trellis is on the left-hand side of the driveway as you enter the property.

Just beyond that is this interesting area with its jigsaw puzzle patio set in gravel

I thought this tripod designed to keep visitors from traipsing all over the plant growing in the gravel was smart

I also liked these wire plant stands rising out of the bed of frothy ground cover (Pachysandra, I think)

Continuing on toward the house, this sheltered patio/gravel area provides pass-through into the back garden

A nice area to sit and rest in the shade

Just beyond the house you're faced with a choice -- head left into what looks like wilderness or....

Go right into a much more manicured area?

Lots of choices of paths to take

I decided to head into the wilderness

It was a rather civilized wilderness

I eventually ended up back at the house.

A large patio for entertaining stretches the entire length of the back of the house

Another pathway

The path leads into this cul-de-sac and patio covered with a trellis dripping with blue Atlas cedar branches

Underneath were interesting foliage combos

I finally headed back out to the front of the garden.

More interesting foliage

They do like their Green Men

Then it was back to the car and on to the next garden. I hope you enjoyed this visit to the past. Don't forget to tip your tour guide as you get out of the vehicle. Perhaps I'll make time travel a Friday feature. What do you think?
