Don't be fooled. Inside this thin coating of sweetness is a fiery core of total insanity.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day -- June 2018

Well, it's Garden Bloggers Bloom Day! I guess I need to take a little break from showing other people's gardens and check out what's flowering in my own.

Starting in the front garden:

Leycesteria formosa (Himalayan honeysuckle)

Dianthus barbatus 'Sooty'

California poppies, Campanula and rose campion

Nigella with the seedheads of Geum triflorum

This peach-colored Digitalis was my hardy replacement for the Digiplexis that was all the rage a few years ago -- not as exotic or bright but it works for me and it comes back every year
Eremurus has sent up tall spires, but frustratingly none of the blooms are actually open yet

Salvia, California poppies (and weeds)

Clematis 'Niobe' and purple Cotinus

Kniphofia and Phlomis

Hemerocallis 'El Desperado' (with just the tiniest hint of a dark purple picotee on the ruffled edges)

Callistemon subulatus 'Dark Red'

Styrax japonicus always flowers profusely despite extreme neglect

Lavandula stoechas

Lavandula stoechas 'Boysenberry Ruffles'

Lavandula stoechas 'Boysenberry Ruffles'

Creeping Thyme growing in gravel

Echevaria

In the back garden:

Lily 'Matrix' with Ray's Golden Campion (the tall pink flowers)

Lily 'Forever Susan'

A small native tiger lily, I can never remember if it's Lilium columbianum or L. pardalinum

I moved my peonies from front to back this spring and they're protesting by flowering less profusely

Honeysuckle

More buds coming along -- although thte flower smells so good and is pretty and exotic-looking, I almost like it better in bud, those big red swelling fingers! Ah well, I'm sure the hummingbirds prefer them open

Tuberous Begonia

Another beautifully scented flower, Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile' (mockorange)

Black Calla lilies waiting in the pot ghetto

Paris polyphylla

There's more, but I think that's enough for now.
