Don't be fooled. Inside this thin coating of sweetness is a fiery core of total insanity.

Wednesday Vignette

I was outside this morning looking over my potted plants on the front porch, wondering if anything might want some water in anticipation of the coming extreme heat this afternoon (and during the next few days, when we might hit triple digits), when I realized that one of my Stapeliads is blooming! I've begged bits and pieces of these interesting little plants from friends down in the Portland area, and finally this one, Huernia zebrina, aka Lifesaver Plant, is flowering.

The flower is so small, I almost missed it!

Isn't it just the strangest flower?

I can see why it's called lifesaver plant, it looks like a Lifesaver candy. Unlike some Stapeliad flowers, it has no smell of carrion.

This series of flower shots is my Wednesday Vignette post for this week. Anna at Flutter & Hum hosts Wednesday Vignette, check out her post here.
