Don't be fooled. Inside this thin coating of sweetness is a fiery core of total insanity.

In A Vase on Monday

Over the weekend Nigel and I went to the Puyallup Farmer's Market which we haven't visited for a few years. I was reminded of it by Linda Reeder's recent visit, plus I've been feeling decidedly lazy and uninspired in my bouquet-making, and I knew I'd see some spectacular arrangements there.

I wasn't disappointed.

Umbellifer and Dahlias

I've got to remember to sow sunflowers next year.

You can get an arrangement that costs $10, $15, or $20. At some booths you could buy single stems for a certain amount, or sometimes they had very small, simple arrangements for only $5.

Hard-working women

So bright and cheerful

So colorful!

Take your pick

I saw so many, it became hard to choose. So many appealed to me. Sometimes I get so stuck in my own head, I can't get out of my own way. I finally chose one that had Amaranthus in it, a plant I have tried and tried to grow, but just can't get to thrive in my garden. The best part was I didn't have to arrange it in the vase, I just unwrapped it and plonked it in.

I have to try Amaranthus again next year.

We had a very pleasant time at the Farmer's Market on Saturday. Of course, the smoke from the wildfires hadn't moved back in yet, but it came back in full force the next day, late Sunday afternoon, this time even smelling smoky. I got an alert on my phone, warning that the air was unhealthy to breathe. So maybe it's a good thing I was lazy and bought my arrangement this week instead of wandering around the garden in the smoke trying to decide what to pick (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it).
