Don't be fooled. Inside this thin coating of sweetness is a fiery core of total insanity.

The Lilacs at the End of the Driveway

I seldom, if ever, show the lilacs at the end of the driveway. They only look spectacular once a year, the rest of the time they're just a green mass. Some years they bloom better than others, and this year they're looking wonderfully full.

They fill the air in the gravel garden with their scent. Their all-too-brief flowers are a really deep purple, not the washed-out purply lavender of many.

They remind me of my childhood.

Don't know why the color is so off, they look much pinker here than they do in person.

I wish you could all smell them!
